Our boys help Lachlan to Western title

Lachlan won the NSW Western under 15s cricket carnival in a final over thriller against their Western Zone counterparts Mitchell at Orange’s Jack Brabham Oval on Thursday.

Needing 132 runs to win, Lachlan got the runs with seven wickets down and five balls remaining. Lachlan captain Sam Williams, from Forbes, was the star with the bat and ball as he led his team by example. He took figures of 4-13 from seven overs and followed it up by smashing 49 runs.

It was the first time Lachlan had played in the U/15s tournament. Mitchell should have posted a much bigger total during their innings when they were 1-89. Michael Waldron (53) and Tom Farnell (35) shared an 84-run partnership before it ended. It started a rot for Mitchell who lost their remaining eight wickets for 42 runs. Lachlan maintained their composure during the innings and took their time. It turned into a winning tactic as they got over the line and claimed the trophy.

Lachlan’s Callan Taylor had the best bowling average with six (nine wickets for 54 runs) and South Coast’s Ken Nguyen received the fielder’s award.
